5 Years In...

Great Blue Heron Meditating

Since my photography journey began about 5 years ago, I have been astonished by how much I have learned and how much I have changed in how I capture my photographs.  Initially, I was using an entry level DSLR and pretty much pointing and shooting.  Not knowing really anything about exposure, f-stops, composition, shutter speed or any of the other aspects that go into a photograph.

Since those initial days, I have spent as much time as I can reading anything I could find, watching video instruction online, taking classes, talking to other photographers and mostly spending time behind my camera practicing.

Live In the Moment

What has been great about this journey is that I have come to realize that it is not about the destination, but more about right now, living in the moment and enjoying everything that moment has to offer.  When I first started as a photographer, I was always so quick to push the shutter release button thinking very little about the shot or what I was trying to capture.  I did not stop, take a breath, enjoy the moment and take in all that is around me, appreciating the beauty that this world has to offer.   That has been the greatest thing I have learned… that capturing images is secondary to loving where you are, who you are with and how the whole experience makes you feel.  It is in this place that we find real peace and can truly live in the moment.

I am in my 50's and happily married with 5 daughters from our blended family. I became interested in photography just a few short years ago, much later in life than many but my passion is strong. I started out experimenting with scenic mountain shots, landscapes, flowers and anything nature as being outside is where I am happiest.
