Great Egret Through the Grass

Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge - Lipsec, Delaware
July 5th, 2019
During the summer months, the reeds and grass at Bombay can get very long and tall. This can hamper visual access to the wildlife as the grass is so tall you can't see the birds at the water line. I took this opportunity to try taking pictures of birds through the grass to create some different visual effects and create an artistry type feel. Though this image looks like it is out of focus, it is not. The foreground grass blurs out and creates this painterly look of the Great Egret. It was a lot of fun trying this technique.

I am in my 50's and happily married with 5 daughters from our blended family. I became interested in photography just a few short years ago, much later in life than many but my passion is strong. I started out experimenting with scenic mountain shots, landscapes, flowers and anything nature as being outside is where I am happiest.
