Reddish Egret Portrait 1

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge - Merritt Island, Florida
January 3rd, 2024
It was early morning, and there was not much light available as I watched this Reddish Egret search for an early day meal. He walked back and forth, moving quickly at times and using its wings to create shadow on the water’s surface to allow it to see through the water in search of fish. They are one of my absolute favorite birds to photograph because they are so animated as they hunt for a meal. The egret stopped long enough for me to grab this portrait. Because of the low light I was able to capture a nice soft shot that showed how beautiful these birds truly are.

I am in my 50's and happily married with 5 daughters from our blended family. I became interested in photography just a few short years ago, much later in life than many but my passion is strong. I started out experimenting with scenic mountain shots, landscapes, flowers and anything nature as being outside is where I am happiest.
